GAZA CITY: The two suicide bombers who attacked the Israeli town of Dimona on Monday entered Israel from Egypt after Gaza insurgents blew up the Gaza-Egypt border wall, a Palestinian insurgent said.
Abu Fouad, a spokesman for the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, said the operation had been planned for a month, but was made possible after Palestinians violently opened Gaza s border with Egypt on Jan. 23.
Israel had been on high alert since the border breach, fearing Gaza insurgents would sneak into Israel through Egypt s porous border.
While the border was open, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians moved freely between Gaza and Egypt s Sinai desert. Egypt managed to reseal the border only on Sunday.
Earlier, Al Aqsa had claimed the bombers were from the West Bank in an apparent attempt to divert attention from the Gaza connection. -AP
