AL-ARISH, Egypt: Egyptian authorities on Tuesday discovered three new tunnels used for smuggling goods into the Gaza Strip, seizing a large amount of toys in one, a security official told AFP.

The tunnels were uncovered near the Rafah border crossing, the second such find in as many days, the official said.

One of the tunnels contained a large amount of children s toys ready to be smuggled to Gaza, the official said, adding that no arrests had been made.

Israel has repeatedly accused Egypt of doing too little to counter alleged arms smuggling through tunnels dug from the Gaza Strip into Egypt. The charges have been vehemently denied by Cairo.

Israel has made a truce or period of calm with Palestinian militant groups conditional on an end to weapons smuggling into the besieged territory. -AFP
