Prosecutor-General Nabil Sadek ordered on Sunday the arrest of 11 workers at Cairo International Airport for 15 days pending trial in light of the recent power outage incidents, according to state-owned media.
Three power outages took place in Cairo International Airport over the past three days.
The arrested workers are accused of deliberately causing the power outage.
Head of the Cairo Port Organization was interrogated among other officials, as Sadek ordered on Saturday investigations into the incident.
A power cut in Cairo International Airport lasted for at least two hours on Friday and was followed by a 30-second power cut at Terminal 2 on Sunday, which resulted in the failure of computer systems, thus delaying procedures for passengers, according to state-owned media Akhbar Al-Youm.
According to Egypt’s Administrative Prosecution, the power cut disturbed air traffic activities, baggage claim, and computers, as no generators were used during the two-hour blackout in Terminal 3, the international flight terminal.
At least a dozen flights were delayed.
The incident took place shortly after a reported visit by a Russian delegation inspecting airport security had completed its mission.
According to TASS, five Russian experts arrived to Cairo last week, tasked with examining safety systems, baggage check, and personal passenger inspection in Terminal 2.
Negotiations with Russia are still ongoing, with no specific dates set for the resumption of flights yet.
