Herzone.com monitors Egypt’s online shopping trends during summer

Coinciding with back-to- school season and the end of summer, school supplies and bags have topped the best-selling categories on the 1st largest e-commerce site in Egypt for Ladies, HerZone.com, in the last weeks of the summer, recording 42%.

Home accessories came second by 28%, while women’s accessories accounted for 14% of total sales. as HerZone.com continues to recognize the importance of customer needs and habits in the buying process, which is considered to be one of the most vital growth stages in the e-commerce sector.

With mobile users approaching 100 million and Egyptian mobile phone operators reporting an 111% prevalence rate, the report illustrates that purchases using smartphones up to 80% of the total Egyptian online purchases. Computers follow at 10.90%. Tablets come in third place at 9%. A further increase in smartphone users in the Egyptian market that will coincide with the adoption of 4G technology, is expected in coming months.

“In the last few years, e-commerce platforms have turned out to be an essential source of purchases and no longer only an option for desktop buyers as they become the first place to search for daily needs across all ages,” states Diaa Hassan, the Founder of the Herzone.com platform.

“Understanding customers’ needs and habits is our priority in providing a favorable and competitive buying experience,” Diaa adds.

The report also revealed the most interactive age group on HerZone.com, where those aged 25-34 years old dominated by 65%. Those between 35-44 years old rank second with a buying proportion of 17%. Third place is shared equally by 12% between those under 24 and over 45 years old.

The report pointed out that women had higher online purchasing rates than men. On the HerZone.com platform during the summer season, purchasing rates were 79% for women compared to 21% for men.

The e- commerce is considered one of the main pillars of economic development in Egypt and the Arab region with global expectations that it will reach $20bn in the Middle East and North Africa by 2020.
