Detained Youth Committee for Presidential Pardon headed by Osama Ghazali Harb discussed setting a plan to return prisoners who were released in previous lists back to their studies and work, during a meeting on Tuesday.
The meeting was arranged to continue checking cases received during the recent period for the fourth list that has been pending since July. The members agreed on meeting again in 2 October to continue discussion for the upcoming list.
However, the committee has been inactive throughout the recent months. Previously parliament member Tarek Elkhouly affirmed that they are still receiving cases from families and different entities. The committee has received cases that are supposed to be recommended for pardons from parliamentary committee of Human rights, National Council for Human Rights (NCHR), and a number of non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
Three pardon lists have been released so far since the committee was formed in December. The first list included 82 prisoners in November, the second pardoned 203 prisoners in March, and the third list—which included over 300 prisoners—was merged with 502 pardons in the celebration of Eid Al-Fitr feast.
