Aboul Fottouh was arrested last week on accusations of leading terrorist organisation

South Cairo Criminal Court, headed by Mostafa Abdel Ghaffar, issued a decision to place head of Misr Al-Qawia Party Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh, and fifteen others, on a list of terrorists.

The decision came based on a memorandum submitted by Prosecutor General Nabil Sadek, which said that Aboul Fotouh and his companions took over and joined a group founded in violation of the law and aimed at harming the interests of Egypt.

Last week, security forces arrested Aboul Fotouh, along with another six members of his party. They were placed in prison for 15 days pending investigations on charges related to leading a terrorist organisation and spreading false news inside and outside the country. They were later released.

Aboul Fotouh, also a former presidential candidate in Egypt’s 2012 presidential election, appeared recently in an interview on Al-Jazeera criticising the Egyptian political leadership. Several calls and complaints urged the general prosecution to arrest Aboul Fotouh.
