Egypt and Sudan have the political well and readiness to complete the necessary steps to complete the implementation of electric interconnection between them, Sudanese Minister of Water Resources, Irrigation, and Electricity Moataz Mousa said in a press statement on Sunday.
In February, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker said that negotiations are underway to sign an agreement for electrical interconnection with Sudan with an output of about 250 MW. Shaker’s statement came during a monthly meeting at the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt (AmCham).
On the other hand, Mousa added that Sudan is cooperating with the United Arab Emirates in the field of solar and renewable energy, noting that the coming days will see a leap in solar energy, with the signing of a memorandum of understanding in January for a solar power plant with a capacity of 500 MW. The MoU was signed in Abu Dhabi between the two countries’ leaders.
He pointed out that efforts are underway to complete the project’s first phase with a capacity of 200 MW in the to the west of Omdurman, to be added to the national electricity grid in conjunction with water generation, which will stabilise the supply of electricity in Sudan throughout the year.
