With reference to the commentary titled “Breaking Burma’s isolation” (May 10, 2010), though it would be difficult to fault the aims and objectives of this study, it placed far too much emphasis on working through Ms Suu Kyi and the NLD and unwisely sought to micromanage engagement with Burma, which is fraught with difficulties as US Assistant Secretary Kurt Campbell has discovered from his latest visit. Indeed, he is unlikely to reach even the first base set by the authors before mid 2011 at the earliest.
