Egypt’s internet users decline by 3.6m in January

The total number of internet users in Egypt declined in January by 3.6 million, reaching 37.8 million users compared to 41.4 million in December 2017.

According to a report issued by the Ministry of Communications, the number of mobile internet users decreased from 32.8 million in December 2017 to 29.3 million in January 2018.

The number of internet users via USB modem devices declined slightly during January to reach 3.2 million users compared to 3.3 million in December 2017.

Meanwhile, the number of ADSL users saw a slight growth, as users increased from 5.3 million last December to 5.33 million in January.

On the other hand, the number of mobile service subscribers increased in January by 56,100, bringing the number of mobile service users to 101.3 million compared to 101.2 million in December 2017.

According to the report, Etisalat Egypt managed to increase its customers in January at the expense of competing companies.

Etisalat Egypt attracted 1.14 million subscribers in January, increasing its total clients from 22.68 million in December to 23.8 million.

Vodafone lost about 734,000 subscribers in January, decreasing its total number of subscribers from 44.4 million in December to 43.7 million.

Orange also lost about 351,000 subscriptions in January, decreasing the number of its total subscribers from 34.1 million last December to 33.7 million.

Telecom Egypt joined the mobile phone market, through the brand WE, last October, becoming Egypt’s first integrated operator, managing to attract nearly 2.3 million subscribers during its first three months as a mobile services provider.
