The predicament that faces Egyptian families today is how to purchase high-quality products at affordable prices. With global price increases for raw materials, more people are opting to buy used products as an ideal solution to fulfil their needs in an affordable manner without squandering their resources. To that end, OLX announced the launch of its Buy Used Items campaign to encourage Egyptians to buy used furniture and home appliances.

In order to tackle the increasing prices in the Egyptian furniture market, OLX prioritised the development of its furniture and home appliances sections to make it easier for sellers to display their products and for buyers to easily browse through all displayed items at affordable prices.

In addition, OLX seeks to provide Egyptian families with smart solutions to buy new home belongings at the cheapest prices on the market, by providing a price comparison between 10 new home appliances versus used ones sold on OLX.

OLX noted that the purchase of used furniture on OLX helps Egyptian users save about 39% of the total price. In addition, selling used furniture on OLX offers extra cash, more space, and allows for better change.

Dina Gobran, general manager of OLX Egypt, said that the idea of buying used products and commodities is popular in developed societies. She added that buying and selling on OLX provides Egyptians with the opportunity to buy what they require and simultaneously save money, effort, and time.

The used furniture and home appliances categories are two of the most popular sections on OLX. The platform witnessed a 40% increase in the number of people listing items for sale in those two categories compared to the same period of last year, which reflects a change in the purchasing trends of Egyptian consumers and a transformation towards more economic and practical thinking.

During the holy month of Ramadan, OLX revealed that the most searched keywords in the second-hand items were iPhone, living room, Nokia, saloon, Samsung, dining room, and closet.
