The Cairo Criminal Court sentenced on Monday five Azhar University professors to life, while a student was sentenced to 10 years on charges of committing and planning violence inside the university.
The case is dubbed in the media as the “the Azhar terror cell” and included students and professors. The defendants are accused of belonging to the now outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group and planning acts of violence.
They are also accused of attempting to recruit students to join the “secret organisation.”
The verdicts are not final, and can be appealed.
