Sports City in New Administrative Capital preparing to host Handball World Cup in 2021: Sobhy

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhy, toured and visited on Tuesday the project to establish the Sports City in the New Administrative Capital (NAC) to follow-up on the completion of the project, which will be held on an area of 93 feddan.

Sobhy stressed that the work is underway in establishing the Sports City in the NAC, and the government is keen to complete the construction work required in accordance with international regulations and standards, in order for it to become one of the major sports projects, representing a strong addition to the construction structure and sports in Egypt.

The minister said the Sports City will host one of the events of the Handball World Cup that Egypt will host in 2021, noting that the complex can accommodate 7,000 individuals on an area of 10,000 sqm.

Furthermore, Sobhy was briefed on the size of the completion that reached 85%. He urged the importance of providing places of services for the fans and using them in investment, and inspected the places equipped for journalists and media professionals.

The project for establishing the Sports City in the NAC includes a football stadium complex with 4 pitches and smaller playgrounds; an area for group sports that includes volleyball courts; basketball courts; beach ball courts; multipurpose playgrounds; a combat court, and a hall for people with special needs. It also includes a gymnasium; a culture and technology building; a social building; a pool complex consisting of indoor and outdoor swimming pool; a diving pool; a service area; a gymnasium; a tennis court, and a squash court building.
