Two bombs concealed in a motorcycle shook the Syrian border city of Azaz north of the governorate of Aleppo, which is controlled by Turkey-backed rebels, killing at least one civilian and injuring more than 16 others on Tuesday.
The first blast took place near the Azaz city market on a crowded day, killing one person and wounding 11 others, while the second bombing went off about an hour later, wounding five people near a mosque close to the first blast, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
A third booby-trapped motorcycle in the Turkish-controlled town of Rai to the east of Azaz was found before it exploded, a police security source told Reuters.
Although the Turkey-backed rebels accused the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) militia of carrying out the explosions, claiming that the YPG seek to spread fear in the Turkish-controlled areas, there was no immediate comment from the YPG.
Moreover, the YPG has denied previous accusations of carrying out attacks against civilians, saying that its units only launch attacks against Turkish forces, adding that Turkish troops have occupied the mainly Kurdish populated city of Afrin to the west last year.
