The first collection of replicas of Egyptian antiquities will be available for purchase at the Cairo International Airport’s duty free by the end of January, according to local media.
Executive Director of the Archaeological Models Production Unit at the Ministry of Antiquities Amr El-Teiby stated that the batch is to be offered based on a protocol signed by the Ministries of Antiquities and Tourism, and Aviation.
The replicas are the closest in shape and quality to the real relics, unlike the commercial ones that are commonly sold at bazaars. The antiquities are to be made by the Archeological Models Production Unit, which is more accurate in shaping the antiquities, more than the commercial ones, according to El-Teiby.
“We have a number of experts in making antiquities replicas,” he assured.
El-Teiby explained that the replica antiquities are the first of their own to be sold at the airport, explaining that they will soon be available also at Sharm El-Sheikh, Luxor, and Aswan airports.
The selling process comes as a part of the ministry’s plan to develop the replica production lines in order to meet the high demand of purchasing Egyptian relics.
