A meeting has been held between the Ministry of Environment’s Waste Management Regulatory Authority and the Cairo and Giza heads of the Ministry of Local Development’s cleaning bodies as part of efforts to stop further spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The meeting came as part of the Ministry of Environment’s plan to play its role in reducing the potential sources of the novel coronavirus, and the state’s strategy to contain the disease. It also aimed to determine the current status of the two governorates’ waste systems.

The meeting also addressed finding alternative locations that act as intermediary waste stations, and the forming of special cells in landfills where contaminated waste can be placed.
Different scenarios in case some workers are absent or during the curfew hours were also on the meeting agenda.
