The Ministry of International Cooperation has announced the results of its Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC) survey, according to a Sunday ministerial statement. The survey was prepared in collaboration with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
The survey showed a 73% alignment between development partners and country priorities. In turn, the predictability of development cooperation was 90%, highlighting the proper planning process of development cooperation.
The survey reflects the progress and effectiveness of Egypt’s development projects and its alignment with the national development agenda. These remain in line with achieving its sustainable development goals (SDGs), said the statement.
Egypt has shown progress in most GPEDC indicators, yet there is an opportunity for further improvement to maximise the effectiveness of development cooperation. This would happen when medium-term predictability of development cooperation is encouraged, elements that the Ministry will work on in the period ahead with its development partners.
Since 2011, the proportion of partner countries with high quality national development strategies has almost doubled, the survey said. It added that nearly all national development strategies approved since 2015 reference the 2030 Agenda/SDGs.
In designing national development strategies, governments extensively consult a wide range of national stakeholders, the statement said. It noted that development partners engage to a lesser extent country’s stakeholders in developing country strategies and programmes.
Mutual accountability mechanisms are becoming more inclusive, with the majority of development partners reporting mutual accountability assessments were effective in informing ways of working in the country, according to the survey.
