The Giza Systems Education Foundation (GSEF) has partnered with the Ahl Misr Development Foundation to operate a face mask production line for the most needy hospitals in Egypt.
The new production line comes off the back of the “Ahl Misr are Responsible” campaign. Ahl Misr Development Foundation recently announced that it will be providing medical and preventive supplies for medical staff as they take part in the fight against the coronavirus. Over 2,000 face masks have been distributed to hospitals so far.
Shehab Al-Nawawi, founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors at GSEF, said the decision to partner with Ahl Misr aims to deepen the concept of community participation and make it more common.
He highlighted that companies, institutions and individuals have a role to play in supporting society during the current crisis. He praised the efforts of Ahl Misr in carrying out its developmental and social roles to combat the spread of the virus.
Al-Nawawi added that since the coronavirus outbreak began, the GSEF team has taken part in brainstorming sessions with members of the global community. During these sessions, they have generated solutions to the crisis for using digital manufacturing technology and designs available on open sources.
These ideas will be used to launch an initiative to manufacture a medical face mask in the institution’s laboratories and cover the shortage of face masks in Egyptian hospitals. The GSEF initial models were positively received, with equally positive responses from doctors and hospitals.
Al-Nawawi said that due to local needs, the GSEF team took the initiative to the next stage and manufactured the largest possible number of protective masks. It also accounts for the partnership with Ahl Misr to work on the medical equipment’s distribution across the country.
Heba El Swedy, founder and chairman of Ahl Misr, said efforts against the coronavirus would not have been successful were it not for consolidated citizen efforts supporting state measures to combat the disease. She stressed the necessity for general citizen cooperation to help doctors, nursing staff, and other workers tackle the virus.
