The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities inspected a number of tourism facilities and restaurants on Friday, according to Assistant Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Monitoring Tourism Facilities, Abdel Fattah Al-Assi.
The inspections, which came on the first day of Ramadan, took place to ensure these facilities continue to apply all precautionary measures amid the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The inspections come as part of the ministry’s work ensuring eateries and food outlets are adhering to the proper hygiene standards, particularly in the current circumstances. A cabinet decision on Thursday has given eateries and restaurants dispensation to run delivery and takeout services during Ramadan.
The statement by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities emphasised that, as part of the precautionary measures, restaurants are recommended to have no more than 50% of their workforce present in the restaurant. Workers will be given a medical examination with daily temperature checks throughout the holy month.
Aside from adhering to the curfew, restaurants are being asked to provide workers with health and safety training, ensure they wear protective clothing such as masks and gloves, and follow the preventive measures. Restaurants will undertake regular sterilisation, whilst also having a suitable waiting area outside their premises for customers to pick up their orders. Customers will not be allowed to gather inside the restaurant, and encouraged to practice social distancing inside the restaurant or facility.
