A total of EGP 62m has been allocated to develop and establish youth centres in Egypt’s neediest villages, according to Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy.
Sobhy added that the financial allocation comes as part of his ministry’s budget for fiscal year (FY) 2020/21.
The minister pointed out that his ministry will also implement other projects to youth in needy villages across Egypt. This would include establishing swimming pools, futsal courts, and playgrounds.
Sobhy noted that the investment plan includes establishing 21 new youth centres, development of four swimming pools, and construction of 213 playgrounds.
This would be alongside the construction of 13 administrative buildings in youth centres and adding floors to 17 other youth centres. In addition to this, 83 youth centres would be built, and the development of youth areas that include seven hostels would be completed.
The plan also includes the establishing and completion of 12 civil education centres, youth forums and scout sites developments.
This would happen in line with achieving the state’s vision of investment opportunities and the full utilisation of youth and sports facilities. This would see them converted into economic units that contribute to the development of these resources to ease the financial burden on the state.
Speaking to Daily News Egypt, Ramzy Hendy, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sports for Youth Affairs, said that authorities will undertake the construction and development works for the facilities.
He added that the majority of these projects will be in Upper Egypt, in addition to some villages in Sharqeya governorate.
He noted that the financial allocations for the project will be distributed between nine youth centres under development and 10 others to be established from scratch.
