Egyptian expatriates are scheduled to participate in the Senate elections next Sunday and Monday, with voting to take place on 9 and 10 August.
Egyptian embassies and consulates abroad have started preparations for elections, to guarantee the voting process is completed in the proper manner.
The National Election Authority (NEA) has decided to adopt absentee voting for Egyptian expatriates. The move takes into account precautionary measures in place in most countries worldwide due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Absentee voting will mean voters do not have to attend embassies in person, due to the exceptional circumstances imposed by the coronavirus.
Meanwhile, the voting process in Egypt will start next Tuesday and Wednesday, with voters to be allowed to attend electoral committees with preventive measures in place.
Candidates for the Senate elections continued campaigning across Egypt during the Eid Al-Adha holiday. Electoral campaigns have intensified in the immediate run-up to the elections, with activity particularly noticeable on social media pages to reach the largest possible segment of Egyptian citizens.
Candidates in the National Parties Coalition, led by Mostaqbal Watan Party, intensified their activity, particularly in villages. Banners featuring each candidate picture and electoral symbol have been posted in fields, and at the entrances and exits of villages and cities.
The National Council for Women (NCW) in the Red Sea governorate announced, on Monday, the launch of an awareness campaign entitled “Your Voice for Egypt Senate Elections”. The campaign comes as part of the council’s keenness to enhance women’s participation in political life and empower women, as an important aspect of Egypt’s Vision 2030.
