Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has stressed “Egypt’s solidarity with the government and people of Lebanon,” following the huge explosions in the port area of the capital, Beirut.
Al-Sisi added that Egypt is ready “to use all its capabilities to support Lebanon through these hard times,” according to Egyptian Presidency Spokesperson, Bassam Rady.
During a phone call with his Lebanese counterpart Michel Aoun on Wednesday, Al-Sisi expressed his sincere sympathy, and wished a speedy recovery for those wounded in the explosions. He also wished that the families of those killed in the incident would find patience and solace.
Two massive explosions took place, on Tuesday evening, at a storehouse containing 2,700 tonnes of ammonium nitrate in the port area of Beirut.
The explosions killed at least 100 people, and left over 4,000 injured, according to the latest official statistics issued by the Lebanese government. The explosions have also caused severe damage to the entire district surrounding the port area.
