Under the patronage of Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy and Giza Governor Ahmed Rashid, the Egypt Motorcycle Rally will take place on 19 September 2020 under the slogan “Egypt is Safe”.
The rally has been organised by the Egyptian Motorcycle Federation as the country’s first ever motorcycle rally.
Application to participate in the rally commenced on 15 August, and will continue until 10 September. The technical inspection process for vehicles will be conducted on 18 September.
The rally competitions will take place on rough roads in the Saqqara desert region, providing contestants with an innovative experience exploring the area. The rally’s total distance is set to be 60 km, consisting of a 6 km track spanning five laps, over two stages.
The event will allow fans of this sport to participate in all motorcycles categories of less than 450 cm3, and more than 450 cm3, in addition to quad bikes. There is also a category for women to participate in the rally, as well as honorary participation for foreigners residing in Egypt.
The rally’s winners will go on to form the Egyptian Motorcycle Team, which will represent Egypt at the World Rally Championships.
It is hoped that the Egypt Rally will encourage greater participation in the sport, attracting sports fans and encouraging tourism under the slogan “Egypt is safe”.
Ibrahim Farid, Executive Director of the Egyptian Motorcycle Federation, said that the rally aims to organise international tournaments and rallies in Egypt during the coming period. It is anticipated that this will encourage further participation and a wider competition base across Egypt.
Farid added that the aim of organising these tournaments is to conduct qualifiers for distinguished individuals to select and form the Egyptian national motorcycle team to participate in international and global rallies to represent Egypt.
