A total of 1.1m reconciliation requests on building violations were submitted across Egypt in the time period from 15 July to 14 September, according to Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy. The total reconciliation fees reached EGP 6.9bn in this period.
The minister stressed that a large part of the sums collected from the construction violation reconciliation will be reflected in the development process in governorates and upgrading services provided to citizens.
He noted that there has been great demand for the reconciliation process, with a significant turnout among citizens nationwide. It has taken place following the government’s announcement of new facilities in the reconciliation process over the past few days, including a decrease in reconciliation costs in rural areas to EGP 50 per square metre.
Shaarawy added that the government has offered those who already submitted reconciliation requests two-month period to complete the required documents. Moreover, the government deducted 25% of the value of reconciliation fees in the case of immediate payment of the whole amount.
The minister elaborated that all governorates have announced further cuts in reconciliation values, at rates that in some places reached 70%.
The move aims to encourage citizens to submit reconciliation requests and legalise their buildings’ status to avoid demolition.
Shaarawy pointed out that about 320 electronic centres have been allocated in governorates to receive reconciliation requests.
