France’s Ambassador to Cairo Stephane Romatet visited, on Wednesday, the Lafarge Egypt Cement and Geo Cycle plant in Ain Sokhna, where he asserted the embassy’s strategy to consolidate bilateral relations between France and Egypt.
The consolidation is set to take place through encouraging French investments and investors in Egypt.
During the visit, Romatet met with Lafarge Egypt’s management team, who shared the plant’s cement top technology, and the company’s contribution to projects in Africa. The latter includes work on: the Cairo Metro project; the 170km long Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road; the 45km long Shubra–Banha Highway; and Lafarge Egypt’s seasoned expertise to build the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).
Romatet viewed the company’s sustainable developments efforts, and the dedication to health and safety principles. This came in addition to Lafarge Egypt’s corporate social responsibility efforts that have been implemented in cooperation and coordination with the Egyptian government and civil society. These have focused on health services, eradicating poverty, empowering education, protecting environment while ensuring the welfare and prosperity of people.
The Ambassador took a tour of the plant, as well as five lines and quarries, whilst also meeting with the company’s Egyptian employees. He planted a tree at the plant’s venue to symbolise the putting down of roots for future growth, reflecting appreciation for Lafarge Egypt’s efforts of reducing its carbon footprint to preserve the environments.
“I am proud to witness the sincere endeavours paid by Lafarge Egypt in employing revolutionary technologies and providing innovative building solutions to thrive with the cement industry in Egypt,” Ambassador Romatet said following his tour, “It was a pleasure meeting with Lafarge Egypt employees, and listening to the company’s invested efforts in sustainable developments and corporate social responsibility.”
