Egyptians living abroad will start voting in the second phase of the parliamentary elections on Wednesday.
Polling stations will open for mail-in voting in the second phase of the parliamentary elections, according to the National Election Authority (NEA).
Work is underway at 140 electoral committees in Egyptian diplomatic missions in 124 countries, to help voters receive ballot papers until 6 November, with voting scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Expat voter will be able to select candidates from the individual list system depending on their electoral district, and others from the closed list system. Electoral silence for the second phase of the elections began on Sunday.
The second phase of the House of Representatives elections includes 13 governorates, namely: Cairo, Qaliubiya, Daqahleya, Menoufiya, Gharbeya, Kafr El-Sheikh, Sharqeya, Damietta, Port Said, Ismailia, Suez, North Sinai, and South Sinai.
Around 2,085 candidates are competing for 70 individual seats, while 284 candidates are competing under the list system in two districts.
The run-offs for the first phase will be held abroad on 21-23 November, while the run-offs for the second phase abroad will be held on 5-7 December.
They will be held domestically for the first phase on 23-24 November, with run-offs for the second phase at home held on 7-8 December.
The final results of run-offs for the first phase will be announced on 30 November, while final results for the second phase are set to be announced on 14 December.
The Ministry of Immigration and Expatriate Affairs said that it is constantly following up with Egyptians living abroad through a central operations room. The ministry is answering all their inquiries and facilitate all procedures during the voting, as well as coordinate with the NEA to clarify how Egyptians abroad participate in the elections.
This is within the framework of the ministry’s keenness to inform citizens abroad of the mechanisms for participating in electoral and constitutional elections.
In a related context, Egyptian communities abroad were keen to inaugurate operations rooms to follow up with Egyptians residing abroad regarding voting procedures. In addition, the General Union of Egyptians Abroad opened a central operations room to also follow up on the voting process.
