Egypt’s Minister of Health Hala Zayed visited health institutions in South Sinai governorate to follow up on the governorate’s preparations for the trial operation of the new comprehensive health insurance system.
Zayed stated that 80% of South Sinai’s residents have been registered for the new health insurance system since last year.
Khaled Mogahed, the Health Ministry’s adviser for media affairs and spokesperson, said that the minister’s visit to Sinai comes as part of her follow-up and monitoring of the ongoing preparations and availability of equipment in medical facilities.
The minister began her visit by inspecting the ongoing development in the Ras Masalla family medicine unit.
Ahmed Al-Sobky, Assistant Minister for Monitoring and Follow-up Affairs, and Mustafa Ghanima, Head of the Therapeutic Medicine Sector in the Ministry, accompanied Zayed in the tour.
Mogahed said that the Minister reviewed the registration process for family medicine at the unit, which has reached 2,900 people since October 2019.
He pointed out that the Ras Masalla family medicine unit was fully developed at a cost of EGP 17m, and serves more than 5,000 citizens.
The minister also visited the Ras Sudr Hospital, and the family medicine units in Abu Swira and Wadi Tal towns.
South Sinai is one of the five governorates in the first phase of the comprehensive health insurance system. This phase also includes Ismailia, Suez, Luxor, and Aswan.
