A delegation from the House of Representatives’ transport and communications committee has inspected a project to add 20 km to the Janaklis Road.
The delegation, headed by MP Alaa Abed, has visited some transport projects and the port of Alexandria.
The committee members heard from citizens affected by the project as a result of expropriation and delayed payment of compensation.
Abed pledged to discuss the compensation issue with the parliamentary committee, and to follow up on the implementation of the project according to its time table.
Speaking on the visit’s sidelines, he added that Egypt’s transport system is witnessing a major boom under President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s leadership.
This ensures the progress towards achieving sustainable and comprehensive development that the state has developed over the last seven years. The developments aim to achieve urbanisation in Egypt’s governorates, by linking it together.
Abed said that he aims to improve the country’s transportation system and services provided to citizens, and prevent congestion and achieve traffic flow.
He referred to the project doubling the Janaklis road, which will add 20 km to the 60 km-long Janaklis Bridge on the Nubaria Canal to Bridge 71 of the Desert Road, at a cost of EGP 4bn.
He stressed that the package of transport sector projects will have a great impact on the ease of movement of internal and external travellers. It will also contribute to reducing traffic densities, ease and save travel time, reduce fuel consumption rates, and preserve the environment.
Other MPs participating in the visit are: Waheed Qarqar; Mahmoud Al-Dabaa, Deputy Secretary of the Committee; Mohamed Al-Sayed, Secretary of the Committee; Khaled Abdel-Mawli; Hazem Awyan; Mohamed Al-Kayyal; Nader Al-Khabiri; Hossam Ashour; Ahmed Saad Nwaiser; and Mustafa Mahmoud Mustafa.
