Germany’s Ambassador to Egypt Cyrill Nunn has announced his country’s support of political dialogue to safeguard Egypt’s rights in the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) crisis.
Nunn also said, “Egypt lives on the River Nile and needs it, therefore, we have to find a solution to secure these rights and needs in the Renaissance Dam crisis with Ethiopia, and that this be done by political means.”
Accordingly, the international community and the European Union (EU) have called on a return to the negotiating table, with the aim of safeguarding Egyptian rights, the ambassador added.
Nunn also noted that Egypt is the River Nile and that the river is Egypt, and called on all parties to contribute to a political solution through negotiations relating to the massive Ethiopian dam.
He stressed that there are no doubts about Egypt’s water needs, and having the right to it, and that without this water, the country does not have a good future.
In previous statements, the Ambassador said, “We are all in agreement on that, and this is the position of the German Federal Government, as well as the Europeans.”
“For the future, we must enter into a partnership together, in order to obtain technologies that enable us to optimise the use of water and there is more to be done in agriculture, irrigation and water consumption,” he added, “There is enough water, but we have to use it in a better way.”
