Egypt’s Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy has directed for a nationwide increase in the level of preparedness for the upcoming Spring Festival (Sham El-Nessim) and official holidays.
With the extended holiday taking place from Saturday to Monday, the minister also directed for a nationwide commitment to implementing all preventive and precautionary measures to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The measures include the closure of all public parks, and preventing public gatherings and holding any celebrations or mass events. Cafes and shopping malls caught violating the government-implemented precautionary measures will face closure.
Shaarawy stressed the importance of full coordination between all sectors and service directorates across the country, including health, supply, and veterinary medicine. This is to ensure all measures are in place during the Sham El-Nessim holidays.
He highlighted the need to intensify monitoring and inspection campaigns on markets, especially those where meat and frozen poultry are displayed and fresh and manufactured fish stores.
The continuous and intensified efforts are aimed at ensuring the validity of products and goods for human consumption.
