Egypt’s Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs Nabila Makram said, on Wednesday, that Egyptian youth living and working abroad can support their home country on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) issue.
In an interview with the London-based Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, Makram added that Egyptian expatriate youth can influence their societies and assert the country’s rights to River Nile water.
The minister said that many Egyptians abroad had already requested for the country to provide them with information and videos about Egypt’s right to the river’s water. She noted that they had started large campaigns to defend Egypt’s water rights.
Moreover, Makram confirmed that Egypt’s political leadership pays great attention to the country’s youth abroad, confirming their participation in the sustainable development process.
She clarified that President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi supports Egypt’s youth at home and abroad because of his conviction that they are the key to development, progress and stability, and their ability to assume leadership positions.
In order to empower youth participation in decision-making, she confirmed that her ministry communicates with Egyptian youth abroad to listen to their opinions and suggestions.
She said that her ministry is also working to bring Egyptian youth abroad into the country, to present all the development projects completed in different sectors, especially infrastructure projects that will benefit future generations.
Makram urged youth abroad to seize this opportunity to invest their capabilities and skills in their homeland.
