Egypt’s cabinet has approved a decision to extend the “Kings of the Sun” exhibition, which is taking place in the Czech capital, Prague, until 30 September.
The exhibition had originally been scheduled to come to an end by the end of June.
Mostafa Waziri, Secretary-General of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, said that this is the second extension of the exhibition at the request of the Czech side.
He noted that the first extension request was at the end of last January. In view of the high demand for the exhibition, the Czech Republic submitted another request to extend the exhibition for a period of three months.
The exhibition, which features treasures from Ancient Egypt, was reopened in May, after a short hiatus in the wake of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The exhibition was inaugurated in August 2020 by Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El-Anani and the Czech Republic’s Prime Minister Andrej Babiš.
As soon as the exhibition reopened last May, all entry tickets to the “Kings of the Sun” exhibition were sold out until mid-June.
The number of visitors to the exhibition reached 10,000 during its first 25 days.
