Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly inaugurated, on Wednesday, the 52nd edition of the Cairo International Book Fair.
The fair is being held under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, under the slogan “Reading for Life”.
The current edition of the fair will see participants from 25 countries, namely: Sudan, South Sudan, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Eritrea, Somalia, Iraq, Kuwait, the UAE, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Yemen, Palestine, Bahrain, Syria, Japan, Korea, Serbia, Russia, Greece, Britain, Spain, and the US.
Additionally, 1,218 Egyptian and foreign publishers, as well as 49 stalls from Azbakeya, are also participating in the fair that will last until 15 July.
All the cultural events at the book fair will be held for the first time via an online platform launched by the General Egyptian Book Organization (GEBO) this year. Visitors can enter the exhibition’s website, and take a virtual visit through 3D viewing technology to tour the exhibition corridors, view all the pavilions and publishing houses, and view the books and buy them online.
Meanwhile, Minister of Culture Enas Abdel Dayem said that tickets for the book fair will be free this year, and can be booked online via www.cairobookfair.gebo.gov.eg. She noted that the permitted number for daily visitors is 100,000 only.
