Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry met, on Sunday evening in Brussels, with his Israeli counterpart Yair Lapid.
During the meeting, Shoukry noted the importance of removing the stalemate between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, in order to launch a just and comprehensive negotiating process.
This is based on international references and relevant United Nations (UN) Security Council resolutions. It guarantees the establishment of a viable Palestinian state according to June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Shoukry considers this as one of the main ingredients for strengthening the pillars of security and stability in the region.
The minister stressed that Cairo will continue to support all international efforts to achieve this goal, and coordinate with various actors in this regard.
He also noted his aspiration that the Israeli Government will not take any measures to undermine the chances of creating an appropriate climate for peace and stability. This would also help avoid an increase in tension and the possibilities of escalation.
In this context, Shoukry noted Egypt’s efforts in reconstruction and the provision of aid and development support to the Palestinian territories, in cooperation with the Palestinian National Authority.
This requires concerted efforts to make these endeavours a success, in order to relieve the burden of the brotherly Palestinian people.
