Cairo receives 1st Libyan flight from Tripoli after 7-year suspension

Cairo International Airport received Saturday the first flight of Libyan Airlines coming from Maitika Airport in Tripoli after a seven-year suspension.

The Afriqiyah Airways resumed aviation between Egypt from Libya on 30 September in the implementation of cooperation agreements between the two countries.

Leaders of the Egyptian and Libyan civil aviation welcomed the first flight at Cairo Airport. The authorities took the necessary precautions with the passengers to ensure their safety.

The Libyan plane is scheduled to return to Tripoli, with 250 passengers on board, including the Libyan national football team and Al-Ahly Tripoli team. 

Egypt’s Borg El-Arab Airport in Alexandria has been receiving Libyan flights from different airports for several years, but flights to Cairo have stopped in 2014 due to the security situation in Libya.
