Egypt and Sudan kicked off ‘Guardian of the South-1’ joint military exercise on Tuesday.
The military exercise is taking place until 29 October at Egypt’s Mohamed Naguib Military Base, which is the largest in the Middle East and is West of Alexandria in the Matrouh governorate.
The joint training is the latest in a series of exercises between the Egyptian and Sudanese armed forces. The two sides have conducted ‘Nile Eagles’ in 2020 and 2021, as well as ‘Guardians of the Nile’ joint military exercise in May 2021.
The drills witnesses the participation of members of the Egyptian Border Guards and their Sudanese counterparts.
The joint exercise represents an addition to the Egyptian and Sudanese border guards.
The first phase of the training includes holding a set of theoretical lectures and practical exercises to identify the combat experiences of the two sides and achieve integration between the forces. This aims to unify combat concepts and refine the skills of the participating forces on both sides.
“Guardian of the South-1” comes within the framework of the joint training plan of the armed forces with friendly countries to exchange experiences, enhance aspects of military cooperation.
