The handicrafts festival in Souk Al-Fustat (Al-Fustat Market) concluded on Saturday, with the participation of 35 Egyptian artists working in handicrafts and traditional industries such as ceramics, crochet, glass, and others, which represents an annual opportunity to promote heritage products.
Al-Fustat Market is next to the Amr Ibn Al-Aas Mosque, the first mosque built in Africa in the Islamic era. Adjacent to the market, there is also a church built from the Roman era, and the Ben Ezra Synagogue which dates back to the era of the Tulunid State.
Souk Al-Fustat was established by Islamic ruler Amr Ibn Al-Aas, the founder of the Egyptian capital of Fustat which was built for his soldiers. The Ministry of Tourism adopted the project of turning the place into a market that sells handmade products to showcase the Fustat’s culture and history.
