Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Culture Ines Abdel Dayem inaugurated the art exhibition of plastic artist and cartoonist Amr Fahmy at the Hanager Centre in the Egyptian Opera House.
After the inauguration, Madbouly toured many of the caricatures included in the exhibition, most notably the weekly political ‘Masrawy’ caricature published by the Al-Akhbar Newspaper. The Masrawy caricatures usually criticise everything related to the internal conditions in Egypt.
The Egyptian Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the art of caricature, which he considers one of the most prominent arts of journalistic work, as it embodies the issues of reality in a mould that carries a mixture of seriousness and fun, saying that it captures the passion and interest of press readers in different countries and cultures.
Madbouly confirmed that he follows the Masrawy caricatures, praising the issues they highlight.
He also reviewed a copy of Fahmy’s latest publications, titled ‘Masrawy Café’, which includes caricatures of political figures.
Minister Abdel Dayem said that Madbouly’s presence confirms the state’s interest in supporting and encouraging various types of arts and culture.
For his part, Fahmy expressed his happiness for the presence of the Prime Minister, stressing that his caricatures are a form of communicating with officials in the country like the PM about important issues in Egyptian society.
