Egypt’s National Center for Translation, headed by Karma Sami, will celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March with a symposium for female translators.
The symposium, titled “The Egyptian Translator and Scientific Translation: Amira Abdel-Sadek as a Model”, will be held next Tuesday via Zoom.
Abdel-Sadek holds a BA in English literature from Ain Shams University and an MA in Cultural Policies for Translation from the Faculty of Arts of Cairo University.
She worked as a first translator in a number of cultural institutions, including the Hindawi Foundation for Education and Culture and Nahdet Misr Publishing House, and has a sizable translation portfolio.
She received the Scientific Translation Award from the National Translation Centre in 2017 for translating the book ‘Knocking on Heaven’s Gates: How Physics and Scientific Thinking Illuminate the Universe and the Contemporary World’, which was issued by the Hindawi Foundation for Education and Culture.
Abdel-Sadek also recently won the Best Scientific Book Award at the Cairo International Book Fair for her translation of the book ‘The Universe: Possible Worlds’, which was published by Nahdet Misr Publishing House.
It is worth noting that International Women’s Day, which is celebrated on 8 March annually, is an occasion to celebrate the progress made in achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment and also to highlight the amazing work done by women in the cultural, political, and social spheres to develop humanity.
