Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry — President-Designate of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 27) — met with Jennifer Morgan — Germany’s Special Envoy for International Climate Action — on Wednesday.
Ahmed Hafez — Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — said that Shoukry expressed his aspiration for Germany to continue to play an active role in promoting international climate action at the bilateral and multilateral levels during the coming period.
He also pointed out that a number of high-level international meetings and events will be held in preparation for the COP 27, which will be hosted and chaired by Egypt in Sharm El-Sheikh this November.
In his capacity as president-designate of the next session of the conference, Shoukry is keen to consult with all parties concerned with international climate action and to hear their views on climate issues.
This is to enhance cooperation and confidence among them in a manner that contributes to the outcome of the COP 27 that takes into account the priorities of the various parties involved in international climate action.
In the same context, the top diplomat also met with Roger Martella — Head of the Sustainability Sector at General Electric — as part of the Egyptian presidency’s keenness to communicate with various parties involved in climate action, including representatives of the private sector.
