Egypt’s Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad, celebrated on Sunday, the World Migratory Bird Day and the International Day for Biological Diversity through the Migratory Soaring Birds Project, in a sailboat in the Nile River.
Fouad emphasized that the purpose of the celebration was to raise awareness of the importance of birds and to increase opportunities for bird watching tourism, as well as to clarify their importance as one of the most important components of the unique biological diversity.
She noted that the World Migratory Bird Day is a real opportunity to raise awareness of ways of harmony and coexistence with nature and enjoy its natural wealth of rare and migratory birds without harming them.
The Minister of Environment added that the Climate Conference Cop27, which will be held in Sharm El Sheikh in November, will discuss biological diversity and the effects of climate changes on it, as well as its effects on migratory birds and their annual flight during the spring and fall of each year.
She further stated that Egypt has made efforts at the national level to protect migratory birds, the most important of which is the integration of conservation programs for migratory soaring birds with development sectors, especially the energy and tourism sectors.
During the ceremony, Ali Abu Sunna, the head of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, said that birds are global ambassadors of nature, as they connect us and give us information about different environments on the planet.
