Egypt affirmed its continued keenness in contributing to collective efforts to establish the Organisation of Eight Developing Countries for Economic Cooperation (D8) in order to build a common future of prosperity and development for its member states.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday 15 June — the 25th anniversary of the founding of the organisation — Egypt said that it has always attached great importance to the role played by the organisation in strengthening cooperation and solidarity among its member states.
The country reiterated its support for the organisation, stressing the need to continue focusing on the basic objectives for which it was established, and wishing the organisation continued success in the coming years.
The D8 is an international organisation that includes eight Islamic countries — Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, and Bangladesh.
The organisation was established in Turkey in 1997 with the aim of strengthening economic and social relations between thee member states, improving the position of these countries in the global economy, diversifying and creating new opportunities in trade relations, enhancing participation in international decision-making and providing the best living standards.
The main areas of cooperation are finance, banking, rural development, science and technology, human development, agriculture, energy, environment, and health.
