Acting Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with Frederica Mayer — Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Egypt — and her accompanying delegation to discuss cooperation in the health sector.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar — Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population — explained in a statement on Monday that the meeting discussed a study prepared by the UNFPA on evaluating the impact of climate change on women, girls, and reproductive health in Egypt.
The spokesperson added that the minister listened to a detailed explanation about the general objective of the study, the procedures, indicators, follow-up, and evaluation required, and also discussed the possibility of cooperating with the UNFPA to conduct the study through the relevant sectors of the ministry, such as the sectors of preventive medicine, family planning, health care, and nursing.
He further noted that the two sides discussed the importance of integrating gender into special strategies on climate change with a special focus on the impact of reproductive health on climate change, in addition to discussing the latest developments in family planning and reproductive health activities in Egypt.
Moreover, the health minister discussed with the delegation the procedures for the scope of the study’s work, the field of data exchange and confidentiality, in addition to discussing the main activities, the timetable, and field work procedures to collect case studies as part of the strategies for implementing the study’s objectives.
