Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El-Anany issued a ministerial decision to form a committee to follow up on the preparations of hotels and tourist facilities in Sharm El-Sheikh ahead of the UN Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP27) that will be held this November.
This committee will be under chairpersonship of Mohamed Amer — Head of the Central Administration for Hotel Establishments, Shops, and Tourist Activities at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities — and will include two members from the administration, along with representatives from each of the Ministries of Health and Population and Environment, the General Authority for Food Safety, and the governorate of South Sinai.
It will also include Hussein Hafez, General Supervisor of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities; Islam Nabil, Director of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Board (ETPB) Office in South Sinai; in addition to representatives of the Egyptian Hotel Association and Chamber of Tourism Establishments.
As part of its work, this committee will undertake the inspection of hotel establishments, restaurants, and other establishments that deal with tourists in Sharm El-Sheikh to verify the level of tourism and health and the quality of services provided therein.
Furthermore, it will make sure that the hotel and tourist establishments are prepared for the conference and that they apply all the health standards required for kitchens and food handling spaces.
This new body is scheduled to continue the work of the committee referred to permanently in Sharm El-Sheikh from the date of issuance of this decision until the end of the conference.
