Data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) revealed that the value of trade exchange between Egypt and Qatar increased to $44.8m in 2021, compared to $25.4m in 2020 — an increase of 76.4%.
Moreover, the value of Egyptian exports to Qatar amounted to $4.5m compared to $395,000 — an increase of 1049% — while the value of Egyptian imports from Qatar amounted to $40.3m, compared to $25m — an increase of 61%.
According to the agency, the most important commodity groups exported by Egypt to Qatar in 2021 included furniture worth $1.4m, machinery and electrical appliances worth $848,000, iron or steel products worth $632,000, tanning extracts worth $621,000, stone and cement products worth $621,000, and cement and stone products worth $256,000.
On the other hand, the most important commodity groups imported by Egypt from Qatar included plastics and their products worth $31.6m, organic chemical products worth $4.4m, machinery and electrical appliances worth $3.7m, fuel and mineral oils with a value of $2.4m, and inorganic chemical products worth $2.2m.
The agency also indicated that the value of Qatari investments in Egypt amounted to $507.9m in FY2020/21, compared to FY2019/20’s $678.3m — a decrease of 25.1%.
Meanwhile, the value of remittances from Egyptians working in Qatar increased by $1.5bn, compared to $1.3bn — an increase of 14.3%.
Additionally, the value of Qatari remittances from Egypt amounted to $1.8m, compared to $2.8m — a decrease of 34%.
