Gradzila Reza, head of the EU governance department, said that the EU, through the UFA Trust Fund, supports the project “addressing the economi drivers of illegal migration”, implemented by the National Council for women(NCW) in the governorates of Egypt.
This came during the first meeting held by the NCW of the steering committee of the project “addressing the economic motives of illegal migration”, headed by Naglaa al-Adly, director general of the Department of international cooperation and external communications at the council, with the aim of presenting the project and its efforts in the four target governorates, namely Minya, Luxor in Upper Egypt, Gharbia and Beheira in the Delta.
The head of the EU governance department explained that this project provides alternatives to illegal migration by developing projects and job opportunities for women and youth in governorates at risk of illegal migration..
She praised the work of the project, especially the women’s products after the handicraft training that was presented at the climate conference (COP27) hosted by Egypt last November.
For her part, Najla Al-Adly, director general of the Department of international cooperation, presented the objectives and desired results of the project, pointing out its activities, efforts and various challenges during the past period.
She explained that during the meeting, the tasks of the steering committee and the role of the members expected to be presented by each side during the project period were introduced.
Addionally, important proposals and recommendations to strengthen the work of the project were presented,
She also reviewed the efforts and coordination between programs and activities implemented in the framework of combating illegal migration and empowering women.
It should be noted that the steering committee of the project “addressing the economic motives of illegal migration” includes Gradzila Reza, head of the EU governance department, representatives of the Ministry of migration and Egyptian affairs abroad in Egypt.
It also includes the National Coordinating Committee for combating and preventing illegal migration and human trafficking, the ministries of international cooperation, planning and Economic Development, Tourism and antiquities, the Federation of Egyptian Industries, the Center for industrial modernization, the Ministry of Agriculture and land reclamation, and the Export Council for industries and handicrafts.
