Basil Rahmi, Chairperson of the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA), has held a meeting with officials of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to discuss mechanisms for benefiting from Japanese experience in the SME sector.
The meeting, which included Ueda Takafumi, the JICA chief advisor for private sector development, and Mayada Magdy, senior regional representative of the Japanese agency in Egypt, revolved around boosting the competitiveness of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), especially those operating in the industrial and agricultural sectors. Integrated technical services will be provided to improve their productivity and increase their efficiency.
This comes as a continuation of the existing cooperation between MSMEDA and various international and donor agencies to provide support to the MSMEs sector.
Rahmi stressed that cooperation is ongoing with JICA to develop these projects, especially the industrial and productive ones, in accordance with the directives of the state.
He added that JICA is one of the top international institutions that MSMEDA cooperates with, in coordination with the Ministry of International Cooperation, and the Agency’s current work plan.
Rahmi said that it was agreed with JICA to start developing the services provided by the agency to projects operating in the plastics sector in Merghem Industrial Complex in Alexandria, in addition to the food and agricultural manufacturing sectors in Minya.
Noteworthy, last year, the delegation of JICA, paid several visits to the agency and owners of projects in various governorates, to get acquainted with the technical services provided by the agency and the mechanisms to provide them to customers. They praised the efforts of the agency to develop the small projects sector, and they expressed their hopes for more cooperation with the agency in the future.
