Egyptian Ministers of Irrigation and Transport, Hani Sweilam; and, Kamel Al-Wazir; held a coordination meeting, on Sunday, in the presence of the executive leaders of the two ministries. The two ministers discussed joint coordination between the two ministries, and to overcome any obstacles facing joint projects.
During the meeting, Sweilam expressed his aspiration for more joint cooperation, pointing to the vital role of both ministries in serving the development goals nationwide. He stressed the importance of immediately overcoming any obstacles facing joint projects in order to finish them according to the timetable set for them.
Al-Wazir expressed his keenness to enhance joint cooperation between the two ministries with regard to the construction of new roads and axes nationwide and the maintenance of existing roads, within the framework of the state’s plan to achieve comprehensive development throughout the country.
Moreover, the meeting emphasised the importance of carrying out the work of purifying waterways. The two ministers directed their affiliated agencies in the governorates to take into account avoiding excessive purification of waterways and not removing trees located on canal bridges to ensure the preservation of bridges and prevent the negative impact on roads with their traffic densities.
The two ministers stressed the need for immediate and safe disposal of the remnants of the purification work so as not to affect citizens in these areas or impede traffic on the roads. Tools for expanding the use of environmentally friendly materials in the Ministry’s various projects.
Emphasis was also placed on continuing coordination between the agencies of the two ministries when implementing road projects adjacent to the waterways, to ensure the preservation of the water sector and the passage of the required water disposals for all water uses served by the watercourse.
The Egyptian Irrigation Minister further indicated that his ministry made an inventory of all the water facilities built on the waterways with a total of 50,000 facilities in the governorates, and prepared a classification of the condition of these facilities to determine the extent of their need for maintenance or replacement.
Both ministers also discussed the position of permanent coordination between the agencies of the two ministries in the governorates, with regard to the work of rehabilitating canals intersecting with the axes of the Nile and paving roads on both sides, especially with the great importance of these axes in facilitating movement and serving development projects and new urban communities, and linking the road network east and west of the Nile.
