Ambassador of Japan in Egypt Oka Hiroshi presented the prestigious Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon to Professor Ahmed El-Gohary at a ceremony in Cairo on Thursday.
The award was bestowed by the Emperor of Japan, in recognition of El-Gohary’s outstanding achievements in promoting educational cooperation and scientific research exchanges between Japan and Egypt.
El-Gohary has been a leading figure in the field of academic cooperation between the two countries for many years. He served as Vice President of Suez Canal University and President of Fayoum University and was instrumental in the establishment of the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (EJUST).
As President of EJUST, El-Gohary has worked tirelessly to enhance the educational and research standards of the university. He has also played a key role in attracting Japanese students and faculty to EJUST, and in promoting joint research projects between Egyptian and Japanese companies.
In his speech at the ceremony, Ambassador Oka praised El-Gohary’s “outstanding contributions to the advancement of friendly relations between Japan and Egypt.” He said that the award was a “fitting recognition of El-Gohary’s dedication and hard work.”
El-Gohary expressed his gratitude for the award, saying that it was “a great honour and a source of great pride.” He said that he was “committed to continuing to work to strengthen the ties between Japan and Egypt.”
The ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests, including Ambassador Fayza Aboulnaga, Advisor to the President for National Security Affairs.
The Order of the Rising Sun is one of the highest honours bestowed by the Japanese government. It was established in 1875 by Emperor Meiji and is awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Japan in a variety of fields, including diplomacy, science, education, and the arts.
The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon is the fourth highest class of the order. It is awarded to individuals who have made “distinguished” contributions to Japan.
