Five people were killed on Sunday in a road accident in Benha City of Qalyubia Governorate, north of Egypt’s capital Cairo, state-run Akhbar El-Yom newspaper reported.
The accident took place on Kafr Shukr-Mansoura Road in Benha when a private car, carrying a five-member family, collided with a truck, said the report.
The five family members from Dakahlia Governorate, north of Cairo, were all killed, it added.
An investigation has been initiated into the mishap, and the truck driver has been detained, pending investigation.
Road accidents claim thousands of lives every year in Egypt as a result of speeding, poor maintenance of roads, and lax enforcement of traffic laws.
Over the past few years, Egypt has upgraded its road network to reduce traffic accidents.
