Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, arrived in Madrid on Sunday for discussions with Spanish officials on the escalating crisis in Gaza and broader efforts towards Palestinian statehood, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced.
The visit, as outlined by Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the Ministry’s spokesperson, aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and address shared concerns in the Mediterranean region, including illegal migration.
Shoukry is scheduled to hold comprehensive talks with his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares, and will also meet Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. High on the agenda will be Spain’s potential role in ending the conflict in Gaza and reviving the stalled peace process based on a two-state solution.
This visit underscores Spain’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause, recently highlighted by its recognition of a Palestinian state.
In addition to the political dialogue, the two countries will review progress in key areas of cooperation, particularly economic ties and attracting Spanish investment to Egypt.
The consultations reflect a deepening relationship between Egypt and Spain, marked by growing collaboration on regional and international issues.
